The Hasbara Campus Pulse
Northern California Update
Jan 27, 2011
By Jessica Felber
Eight students have returned to Northern California campuses this winter now well-equipped and ready to advocate for Israel! Students at UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, and San Jose State University are already planning and executing major events for this quarter!
Yesterday Santa Cruz Israel Action Committee (SCIAC) hosted Tabby Davoodi, who spoke about her experiences first growing up as a Jew in Iran, and later of anti-Zionism in American university. SCIAC is planning to use this event to kick off an Iran Awareness campaign that will potentially include petitions, a screening of Iranium, rallies, and op-eds. Stay tuned for more information on Iran-related events at UC Santa Cruz!
UC Davis is now well on its way to becoming a beacon of pro-Israel activity in NorCal. The new
Jewish Student Union (JSU) is a fully functioning student group and includes a special committee dedicated specifically to pro-Israel activity and advocacy. They are playing an integral role in the planning for UC Davis's Annual Israel Advocacy Conference, to be held this year on Sunday February 27. This conference will include advocacy training seminars, class on current issues, and lectures from speakers important in the field, including an Israeli soldier! The conference is open to pro-Israel students across the state and carpools will potnetially be coming from your area! And last but not least, Spartans for Israel along with the Silicon Valley Hillel are planning an event to be held on January 31 called "Israel, Turkey, and Beyond." Professor Efraim Inbar of Bar Ilan University will be discussing Israeli-Turkey politics with a special interest in the strategy of Israeli national security. The event will take place in Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, 5th floor Cultural Heritage Room at noon.
