The Hasbara Campus Pulse
New York Update
Feb 16, 2011
By Netanella Refael
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for students in the New York area and it’s only going to get busier!
Take Back Zionism, an amazing campaign launched by Birthright Israel Alumni in collaboration with Hasbara Fellowships among many other wonderful organizations, was launched at a gala in NYC early February. The Take Back Zionism campaign is a campaign designed to help young Jews define what Zionism means to them. Elie Weisel, who was supposed to be the main speaker at the event was unfortunately ill and unable to attend but was replaced by Michael Oren who gave a speech via webcam. Michael Steinhardt, the co-founder of Birthright Israel was also in attendance among the hundreds of students and young professionals who came to re-define what Zionism means to them.
What does Zionism mean to you? Check out TakeBackZionism.org and let the world know.
New Yorkers also had the privilege of attending an exclusive screening of Iranium, the most talked about film in the press the moment, at an AMC theatre in NYC. This event, which was co-sponsored by Aish Connections in conjunction with Lionpac, was highly successful with over 200 students in attendance. The director, Alex Traiman, also joined us for a gripping Q & A session after the film. Students also had the pleasure of attending an Israel pre-party where they mingled, ate falafel and drank some amazing wine.
Haven’t seen the film yet? It might be coming to a campus near you, so stay tuned! And keep checking the Hasbara calendar of events to find a screening near you.
