Southeast Update

Feb 28, 2011

By Gail Axelrod

Spring marks the beginning of the second annual Israel Peace Week, an international movement showcasing the steps Israel has taken in the hopes of achieving a stable peace with her neighbors.

Israel Week was a huge success at Florida State University. The week was sponsored by Noles for Israel, led by Hasbara Fellows Ilana Goldenberg, Ron Barhai, Daniel Ackerman, Rachel Tenenbaum, and Harrison Dubosar.

Shalom FIU, under the leadership of Hasbara Fellow Rebecca Sterling at Florida International University, kicked off their Israel Peace Week Monday, February 28. The weeklong event features Truman National Security Project Fellow Mara Karlin and former US Representative Ron Klein.

Emory Students for Israel under the leadership of Sarah Green will also be hosting Israel Peace Week on Emory’s campus beginning the week of March 14. The week will feature a screening of Iranium on Wednesday, March 16 and an Israeli themed Shabbat dinner co-sponsored by Chabad at Emory.

Dawgs for Israel under the leadership of Meredith Broudy and Daniel Matatiaho at the University of Georgia presents "Israel at Heart" March 7, at 7:00 PM in the Zell B. Miller Learning Center Room 214. The session features the non-profit Israel at Heart, which seeks to promote a better understanding of Israel and her people. The organization brings the real faces and stories of Israeli university students to communities around the world.

Also check out Strangers No More. This 2011 Oscar award winning documentary focuses on students of Tel Aviv’s Bialik-Rogozin School, home to children from forty-eight different countries.

Shalom y’all,

Gail
