What do Israel, the Wall Street Journal and dragons have in common? Not much usually. But all three came together this past week as Bret Stephens of the WSJ’s editorial page, made the liberal case for Israel for an event hosted by one of Drexel University’s newest student group: Dragons for Israel.
Organized by Hasbara Fellow and Dragons for Israel President Shani Weiss, the event last Wednesday, brought more than 50 community members and Drexel students involved with the local Drexel Hillel, Dragons for Israel, as well as the Drexel International Business Association.
Stephens, who writes the WSJ’s “Global Affairs” column and was previously editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post, spoke about current events in the Middle East and why supporting Israel is beneficial especially to liberal voters in the U.S.
As Dragon’s for Israel’s second major program this semester, Weiss said it exceeded her expectations. “Stephen’s discussion of the current state of the Middle East was greatly appreciated by students,” she said. “His words seemed so logical, yet profound at the same time.”
Weiss, along with Hasbara Fellow Hannah Alexander and the rest of the Dragons for Israel team, is now working hard in preparation for the group’s first Israel Week coming up in April.

In other news, Israel “Apartheid Week” is underway at George Washington University, and the Student Alliance for Israel (SAFI) could use your help to make pro-Israel sentiment on campus known! For those in the DC area, SAFI will be tabling Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 pm by the elevators in Marvin Center (800 21st Street NW) and would love if you could stop by and show your support.
For more information, email SAFI president and Hasbara Fellow Jamie Albert at jamiealb@gmail.com.
