The Hasbara Campus Pulse
Midwest Update
Mar 9, 2011
As some schools are enjoying Spring Break this week, others are hard at work planning events and campaigns like Israel Peace Week (IPW).
Next week, the
University of Illinois- Chicago is having their IPW, which is largely being organized by
Nick Lieber. UIC's Peace Week is looking great, as it starts off with
Israel360 and continues with a screening of
Iranium and a volunteering project to highlight Israel's humanitarian aid around the world. On Wednesday, representatives from the Chinese and Israeli embassies will
speak about the strong economic and political relationship the two countries have formed in the last few decades; this event is followed on Thursday by a lecture on Israel's role as a leader in sustainable technology and innovation. Capping off the week is a
screening of the film "After the Cup: Sons of Sakhnin", which is a documentary about a soccer team that represents coexistence between Jewish and Arab youth. The Israel group has gathered many cosponsors for each event, ranging from environmental groups to humanitarian groups, and even university departments. Congrats and good luck UIC!
Also, Miami University hosted Yaakov Katz of The Jerusalem Post last Monday. Miami Students for Israel, and Hasbara Fellows Adam Baer and Margo Rosner did a great job despite a silent protest by members of the MSA. Unphased by the protesters, a successful and thoughtful Q&A took place after the event.
At Ohio University, the group held a small screening of the film Iranium, with a great response from those who attended.
If you would like to have any of these programs at your campus, feel free to contact your local Hasbara staff member! Congrats again, and good luck to everybody with upcoming events!
