First Northern California Update

Sep 5, 2011

By Sandra Cohen

Students in the Northern California semester schools are back and beginning to plan for the year! Leaders at UC Berkeley are planning events to recruit freshman, educate their members, and build coalitions.

We’re all looking forward to having a “Club Israel” night to bring the culture of Israel to Berkeley, California. Bringing big speakers to attract large crowds and educate new students are also in the works for this year.

At San Jose State University, Hasbara Fellow and president of Spartans for Israel, Dana Margittai, along with vice president Eric Madeiros, also have a lot in store for this year, planning to execute at least two pro-Israel events each month. Next week they are hosting a professor from the University of Haifa to speak about the Dead Sea Scrolls. They are also collaborating with Hasbara for a screening of “Crossing the Line” and a presentation of Israel 360 next month. More to come soon!

As other Northern California schools start up, more initiatives will be taking place to focus on coalition building and education regarding the Palestinian Authority's efforts to declare a state without recognizing Israel.
