Try Out for the Op-Ed Challenge!

Sep 11, 2011

By: Talia Salzman

Write for your campus newspaper on a Pro-Israel topic, get it published, send it to OpEdChallenge@hasbarafellowships.org, and you may win $250! We are looking for students who want to write about and educate the rest of the student body about what is really going on in Israel, and what they can do to help!

Some students voice their opinion about Israeli politics, and some don’t. Hasbara is running a semester long contest encouraging students to write Pro-Israel articles in their school newspapers. The articles may cover a range of topics. Why should students participate in this contest? Well, first of all, there is the recognition that comes with getting published in the school newspaper (naches for your parents), as well as great practice for writers, and finally my friends, there is a prize to be won. The article must be submitted by you, must be published in your campus newspaper, and of course must cover the topics that have been outlined on the Hasbara Op-Ed Challenge web page: OpEdChallenge@hasbarafellowships.org.

We are looking for students who have a voice, who want to make a change. If you think you have what it takes, then write an article, submit it to your newspaper, get it published, then submit it to OpEdChallenge@hasbarafellowships.org where a Hasbara fellowship staff will go over it. If the article is well written, has a strong message, cohesive argumentative structure, and timeliness the winner of this challenge will receive $250 as well as be featured in the “Hasbara Angle”.  The second and third place prices will consist of a monetary prize of $150 and $100, along with a feature in the “Hasbara Angle” as well. So what are you waiting for? Write about Human rights in the middle east or the Iranian threat to Israel, whatever Pro-Israel argument you think will turn heads and make that 90% of students who are unaware to stop and think for a minute. Make a difference, write about it.
