Update from the Midwest Region

With the sad end to the summer begins an exciting new semester at schools throughout the Midwest, and schools throughout the region have gotten off to a blazing start! The Midwest sent many students on Hasbara Fellowships programs to Israel this summer including Adam Baer from Miami University, Michael Jacobson from Indiana University, and Wendy Cohen, Galia Nurko, Sarah Perrill, Rebecca Wasserstein, and Mandy Gross from The Ohio State University. The new Fellows have already begun extensive work on their campuses.
At
Miami University, Miami Students for Israel held their annual Welcome Back BBQ following Miami's Mega Fair. Both opportunities allowed for great recruitment initiatives, and many new potential members came through to learn about how they could get active in Israel advocacy on campus. MSI is also in the process of planning a major fundraising initiative for an Israeli charity, as well as looking for speakers to continue their great reputation of diverse and effective educational events. Their success can be seen with large numbers of applicants for
Israel Inside/Out which starts next week!
Ohio State is busy planning their annual, day-long event Ohio Loves Israel in October. This year's program looks to be as great as it was in years past, with a variety of speakers and discussions already confirmed. The hard-working students and staff are also planning more events for later in the quarter, and all this even before school has officially begun!
Indiana University is busy organizing their Israel Awareness Week for this semester, and this event has gotten much support from the university and an abundance of other student organizations in the past. With a strong Hasbara Fellow and a dedicated Campus Advisor in Rabbi Seth Cook, Israel advocacy at IU is starting strong
Things are off to a great start here in the Midwest, and it looks as though the success will continue throughout the year!
