Think Green, Think Blue, Think CUNY!!

Nov 4, 2011

By: Batya Reyz

On Tuesday, NYSIPAC (the Brooklyn College Israel Club) joined together with the Food Sustaibablility Club to hold a tabling event educating the student body on the numerous ways that Israel works to protect the environment.

The “Think Green Think Blue” materials from Hasbara Fellowships really suprised a lot of people who knew very little about the all of the contributions Israel gives to the planet each and every day! This includes everything from battling global climate change, to finding clean energy solutions, to conserving water, and much more! The attractiveness of the materials brought in many curious onlookers, and we distributed many organic lolipops (together with "Did You Know" cards about Israel) provided by the Food Sustainability Club!

Together with Food Sustainability, were able to show the importance of preserving and protecting the environment, as well as understand and appreciate Israeli innovations and productivity.

On Thursday, “Students United for Israel” brought Noam Bedein from Sderot Media Center to speak about the Iranian threat to Israel’s security. By telling stories about his personal experiences living under the constant threat of rocket attacks, and showing some powerful videos of the faces of Sderot, he demonstrated the human struggles that Israeli citizens face in their daily lives living in such close proximity to Hamas.

The audience was 40% non-Jewish and many of them had never heard of the situation before because of the lack of media coverage. Many in the audience were extremely disturbed by the disproportionate coverage, and some even expressed plans to write to their local community leaders about the issue. Other schools hosting Serot Media Center are Queens College and Baruch!

More from the CUNYs to come!! Can’t wait to see what next week has in store!
