In the midst of all the chaggim, student groups in central Canada are very busy. The University of Alberta, welcomed Miri Eisen. Kol Ha Kavod to Staci Silverman and her Hillel team for organizing such a great opening event!
Miri, former IDF Spokesperson, gave two perspectives on the Flotilla. She talked about how the media portrayed Israel and how the rest of the world did. Miri was not only a brilliant speaker, but kept on topic and remained graceful when interrupted by those with opposing views.
To the west, in Winnipeg, Hillel tabled last week at the University of Manitoba. I had a great time promoting Hasbara Fellowships and the Israel Inside/Out course, as well as meeting newly accepted participants to both programs. Hillel threw a bit of a party in University Centre with music, falafel, free giveaways a,nd Hasbara Did You Know cards. It definitely attracted a lot of positive attention and created hype for their upcoming Kick-off party Sunday night. The kick-off “Sababa After Dark” will be an Israel-themed party at a golf course with top 40 music and Israeli music too!
On October 19th, Winnipeg will be host to another exciting event. The newly formed Jewish Business Network @ Winnipeg chapter will host their inaugural event. The event is a reception with Keynote speaker, Henri Rothschild, who helps incubate Israeli high tech startups. Mr. Rothschild will also be bringing in representatives from Israeli high tech startups.
