Good News and Not-So-Good News from Ontario

Hello Readers!
I hope everyone had a great Sukkot and that you're not still recovering from Simchat Torah!
This last week in Ontario has seen some WONDERFUL events, and some not so great ones.
The Good news first:
This week saw some fantastic events out of McMaster and York University!
McMaster held it’s annual Bedouin Night with over 50 students in attendance! The event was not only a great night out, but also a fantastic coalition-builder with student from various cultural groups including the school’s German club, whose executives were present. Kudos to the entire IOC team including Hasbara Fellows Rebecca Cherniak and Jackie Brown!
York University held its first informative campaign of the year called “Free Palestinians from Hamas”. The table, partially using a student-made display and partially using Hasbara’s Hamas: The Obstacle to Peace campaign, is meant to raise awareness of Hamas’s terrorist activities and human rights abuses not only in Israel, but within the Palestinian territories. Great job to the entire Hasbara@York team including Hasbara Fellows Adir Dishy, Dara Koplowitz, Naomi Samuels, Marlee Mozeson, Tyler Golden and Aaron Rosenberg.
The not so great news:
Despite being denied entry into Canada in the past, former British MP George Galloway touched down at Toronto’s Pearson Airport this week. Geoge Galloway was denied entry to Canada just 18 months ago based on defying the provisions of Israel’s blockade in Gaza and providing financial support to the terrorist group Hamas. Despite a warning from the Canadian High Commission stating that “he might be deemed inadmissible” if he attempted to enter Canada, Galloway took his chances and arrived in Toronto on Saturday night to the cheers of “welcome back” from small awaiting crowd.
On the upside…
Look out for Great events coming up this week!
Yaakov Katz is in town TONIGHT at 4:30pm at the Thomas Lounge in Oakham House, Ryerson University!
Also, you don't want to miss this great opportunity: hear the leader of Israel's opposition party, Tzipi Livni give an EXCLUSIVE briefing to students only on Wednesday night!. The event will be at 5:00pm at Events in the Park, 1095 Lesllie St (N. of Eglington). RSVP TODAY by e-mailing Shirin.Ezekiel@hilleltoronto.org. This event is FREE for the first 100 students to register.
