Last week, Brandeis hosted an Israel Peace Week. Coordinated by Hasbara Fellows, Rachel Goutman and Sivan Levine, the Brandeis Zionist Alliance hosted over 135 students at their annual Gourmet Israel Buffet. This event shows Israel's diversity by cooking different dishes based on the different immigrant populations in Israel. The event featured Moroccan, Russian, Anglo, and Israeli food.
BZA also handed out over 400 pieces of cake with facts about Israel stapled onto the plates.
Hasbara Fellow
Sarah Geller circulated a leadership statement during this week, which said, "As a student leader, I recognize the right of Israel to exist as a democratic state, which is the homeland of the Jewish People." The statement was signed by the Student Union President and other campus leaders.
Students for Justice in Palestine and
Jewish Voices for Peace hosted an Israeli Occupations Awareness Week that same week. They gave out propaganda bracelets and put together a "zine". The highlight of their event was Noam Chomskey’s address to the campus. Out of 200 students in attendance, 70 students walked out of his speech in protest.
Throughout the week, our months of planning engaging and educational programming, proactive material distribution, and coalition building to get statements of solidarity from campus leaders, has trumped
their efforts.
