Southwest Update

Nov 16, 2010

By: Alan Levine

I had the pleasure of leading a very successful activism training session for the "Advocacy Micro-Community" of Texans for Israel at the University of Texas in Austin. The event was attended by Jewish and non-Jewish students alike, including members of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), despite the recent graphic demonization and initimidation of pro-Israel activists at UT. Thank you to Hasbara Fellow Ygal Schuller, TFI Advocacy Chair Rachel Kutler, and the Hillel shlicha, Ayala Peer, for planning this fantastic event. Check out Ygal's fantastic viral video about Hamas!

This week, I had the chance to visit the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where I led a discussion on current events for participants in the Israel Inside/Out online course. The brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi at UNLV made it a priority to encourage new members to take the course, and I had the pleasure of meeting much of the chapter. AEPi is a partner organization of Hasbara Fellowships, and their UNLV chapter is a model of what fraternity students can do for the pro-Israel movement on campus. Special thanks to AEPi brothers Gil Kahn and Nathan Sigal, as well as Hillel director, Monique Arar.
